The Gospel of John, The Period of Crisis, The Visit of the Greeks, Part XI, John 12:34 - Lesson 108
Read Verses John 12:31-33, for review: Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. This he said, signifying what death he should die.
John 12:34, The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
We have witnessed throughout all of the Gospel of John how Jesus Christ revealed himself as the Messiah by his words and his works.
And yet ignorance of the word of God was the foundation upon which the Jews stood.
They did not want a Messiah like Jesus Christ.
They had developed in their system a Messiah of their own making and Jesus Christ did not fill the requirements for the position.
He continues to be lacking in the Jewish mind.
They continue to look for another and him they will receive.
They privately interpreted Psalm 89:29, His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
They included into their liturgy those scriptures that supported that notion of the Messiah that they found in their heart.
They excluded the scriptures like Isaiah 53 where we find him wounded for our transgressions, and bruised for our iniquities.
A Messiah with the chastisement of our peace upon him; and a Messiah with stripes that heal.
They excluded the Messiah of the scriptures because their mind was darkened.
They developed selective scripture reading.
They paid homage to their traditions instead of the Word of God.
Who is this Son of Man anyway they seem to say with contempt.
Their preconceived ideas are walls they have erected that keep out the truth, walls that keep them in the dark. |
